Master Naturalist Certification Class

The Georgia Master Naturalist program, a joint program with the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and the Cooperative Extension Service, is a hands-on environmental education program that explores habitats and ecosystems in Georgia. This program is a combination of lectures and hands-on learning through outdoor field studies and relevant resource materials. Class time is from 9:00a to 4:00p and all basic materials will be provided on the first day of the program. At times, travel to and from off-site locations will be necessary. Drink and snacks are provided during on-site classes, but be prepared to bring a packed lunch. After completing this fun and interactive program, the Georgia Master Naturalists are encouraged to share their knowledge with their communities by volunteering in local schools or nature centers. Certified Interpretative Guide Class

Are you interested in…

Then inspire them to become the best interpretive guides they can be by helping them earn the Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) credential with the National Association for Interpretation.

            $242 base fee includes instruction, workbook & textbook

            $50 optional fee to become a member of the National Association of Interpretation

            $80 optional processing fee sent to the National Association of Interpretation for Certification

What is the CIG program?

The CIG program offers an opportunity to train facilitators in interpretive techniques and acknowledge that training with an internationally recognized certification. The CIG credential is gaining recognition and respect by tour and cruise companies, parks, zoos, museums, nature centers, and aquariums around the world.

Location, Class Sizes & Fees:

The Chattahoochee Nature Center will be offering individual sign-up classes and can customize a class for a group of 8 – 20 in any location. This is a 4-day certification class that can be daily, weekly or monthly. Class fees range from $242 - $372 per student. Wilderness First Aid: Saturday March 6th and Sunday March 7th, 8:30AM – 5:30PM both days, $149 Members & non-Members, This course, in partnership with Solo Schools, provides entry-level training for outdoor enthusiasts to prepare themselves for outdoor trips. Topics covered range from preparation and prevention to assessment and treatment. All of our instructors have extensive outdoor experience and have been selected not only for their expertise in emergency medicine and rescue, but also for their teaching skills. WFA is a two-year certification that does not include CPR. American Heart Association (AHA) HeartSaver CPR is an optional extra that can be taken on the evening of day one.   Wilderness First Responder
On Site: Learning Outdoors

Wilderness First Responder: Saturday May 1st – Sunday May 9th, 8:30AM – 5PM with one late night, $595 Members & non-Members, This course, in partnership with Solo Schools, is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors and students in outdoor recreational programs. The 72-hour curriculum includes standards for urban and extended-care situations.  This course is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of your time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision-making abilities.  Ages 16 – Adult, Pre-Registration Required. Wilderness First Responder Recertification: Saturday May 22nd and Sunday May 23rd, 8:30AM – 5:30PM both days, $164 Members & non-Members, This course, in partnership with Solo Schools, is an intensive two-day class specially designed for people who have completed WFR, whose certification is due to expire or will expire within one month of the date shown on the card. Taking the WFR Recertification will bring you up to date with all new wilderness protocols and refresh your memory on standard WFR curriculum. American Heart Association (AHA) HeartSaver CPR, valid for two years, can be taken on the evening of the first day (5:30pm-7:30pm) at an additional charge of $35. Wilderness Survival: Saturday June 5th and Sunday June 6th, 8:30AM – 5:30PM both days, Ages 16 - Adult, $140 Pre-Registration Required, Whether you're planning to audition for an episode of Survivor or just want to improve your wilderness aptitude, this workshop is bound to be an exciting weekend! We'll spend some time in the classroom, but the bulk of our learning will take place in scenarios on the grounds of the Chattahoochee Nature Center.  Topics will include: Making a Plan: food, water, fire, shelter  - Water: collection, purification and filtration - Food: trapping, edible plants and cooking methods - Fire: wood, location, one match fire and Flint & Steel - Shelter: location and examples - Calling for Help: basic signaling and leaving notes or signs - Building Survival Kits
