Upcoming Merit Badge Clinics:
Environmental Science Merit Badge – Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 12:00-5:00pm
What We Offer:
Canoeing Merit Badge
Discover all about canoes, the safety involved, different paddling strokes and more! Learn how to canoe and practice your new skills while paddling on one of CNC's ponds!
Pre-requisites for this Merit Badge are Swimming and First Aid. These make up the first 3 requirements of the Canoeing Merit Badge and will not be covered at CNC. Requirements covered include #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, and #10. We do our best to complete every Merit Badge every time and usually succeed!
Please note that the Canoe Merit Badge is $30 per scout.
Environmental Science Merit Badge
This hands-on merit badge involves experiments about the environmental issues that we all face today. Discover ecosystems, learn about air pollution, find out how to best clean oil from the feathers of waterfowl, demonstrate the force of water through erosion, visit with Georgia’s state reptile and more. Because this merit badge uses higher level sciences and should be viewed as the keystone to all merit badges with an environmental science focus (hence the designation for Eagle Scout), scouts must complete the pre-requisites below and ideally have a general understanding of other environmental sciences.
Pre-requisites for this Merit Badge include #1, #2, #3f, #5 and #6. We will briefly discuss these during the program, but scouts should have previous knowledge of these requirements to fully participate in the activities. Requirements covered include #3a3, #3b3, #3c2, #3d1, 3e1 and 4a. We do our best to complete every Merit Badge every time and usually succeed!
Mammal Study Merit Badge
In this 4-hour workshop, discover what makes a mammal a mammal, learn about one of the mammals that CNC has in rehabilitation, find out how we get our biofacts and what we have to do to preserve them, and discuss the delicate balance of the Chattahoochee River's ecosystem.
There are no pre-requisites for this Merit Badge. Requirements covered include: #1, #2, #3c, #4e and #5. We do our best to complete every Merit Badge every time and usually succeed!
Nature Merit Badge
Scouts will discover food webs, discuss the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates in Georgia, and learn how and why plants and animals are important to each other. Participants will spend time outside identifying a variety of Georgia plants and animals, and will make a plaster animal track to take home!
There are no pre-requisites for this Merit Badge. Requirements covered include: #1, #2, #3, #4 birds, mammals, plants, reptiles and amphibians, and soil and rocks. We do our best to complete every Merit Badge every time and usually succeed!
Each Merit Badge Clinic is limited to 20 scouts and is hands-on. The cost for each workshop is $25 per scout (unless otherwise noted) and payment is due at the time of registration.
