Forest Fairy House Trail

Sponsored by Northside Hospital

Back by popular demand, our fairies have been busy building all new fairy houses for our Homestead Trail and Kingfisher Pond Trail this spring. More than a dozen whimsical works line our trails – slow down as you search for the fairy houses made from tiny natural objects. You can even earn Nature Exchange points as you find them along the way, just pick up a scavenger hunt. Get imaginative with us this spring and perhaps create your own Fairy House in our Free Play Area while you are here!

Frog Chorus

Spring Break Camp at Camp Kingfisher

Come enjoy the re-bloom of spring with Camp Kingfisher. This 5-day session is packed with animals, hikes and camp fun. Open to current K-7th grades.

Spring Break Camp is a 5-day camp experience filled with exciting animal encounters, outdoor play, and educational hikes exploring our 127 acres at CNC! Daily schedules include indoor and outdoor FUN built around spring ecology themes like “Forests-a-bloom” or “Spring Pollinators!” Come see the Chattahoochee River teaming wildlife and hike through our forest abloom with new flowers and bright green leaves. Of course, we’ll have lots of good ole’ camp fun like singing silly songs, laughing at camper skits, creating eco-crafts. This is a GREAT way to try out camp before the summer.

Registration for Spring Break Camp opens on March 1st at 10 am.

Homeschool Science Monday

Journal 4Join us in the Nature Exchange monthly for themed programming designed with your homeschool learner in mind.  Our knowledgeable volunteers and staff, 127 acres, and resources are here to help you expand and enhance your curriculum.  This station-learning format is open to ages 5 -13.  Enjoy a mini-lesson followed by hands-on activities and take-home projects that connect month to month.  Different themes each month. Painting on a Gold Leaf & Collage Surface

Join artist Alle Craig, president of the Roswell Fine Arts Alliance, for a floral-inspired collage workshop.  During this workshop you will prepare a unique surface with gold leaf and collage, and then paint a flower, bird or butterfly on this exciting new surface.

Alle opened her own business, “Alle’s Art Gallery and Framing” in 1974 in Dodge City, Kansas and was successful until selling the business and moving to Marietta, Georgia in 2007. She has taught art lessons to all ages, nearly all of her adult life and takes great joy in sharing art with others. She has experience teaching a wide variety of techniques utilizing many different types of media to all age groups. She has developed this gold leaf collage technique to create a unique painting surface that all ages and skill levels can do. She is president of Roswell Fine Arts Alliance and is a member of Southeastern Pastel Society. $75 General Public/$65 CNC Members (includes 1 canvas and collage materials); Registration required by April 10th

Earth Day Canoeing: Shooting Stars on the River

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than getting outside? Enjoy a 2 ½ hour paddle down the Chattahoochee River with our experienced and knowledgeable canoe guides. After the paddle, join us around the campfire as we watch for shooting stars during the peak of the Lyrid Meteor Shower.

The Songs of Trees – David Haskell Book Reading and Signing

Sunset Sips - Wes Yoakam

April’s opening act is Wes Yoakam, who will be sure to have you on your feet and singing, or at least bobbing your head along to some of the best acoustic covers of everything from current pop to classic rock.

The Sunset Sips concert series returns in 2017 to treat music lovers to an eclectic collection of local talent. This is a laid back, family friendly series and CNC’s grounds are open for you to explore. Grab a friend and head over for live local music, a cash bar and feel free to bring a picnic dinner! Sunset Sips will happen the 4th Thursday of every month from April to September (except July).

The Nature Club: Weather with National Weather Service Meteorologist Dave Nadler

Dave Nadler will talk about weather in general, specifically the hazardous weather that can impact much of north and central Georgia every year.

Birding Canoe Trip

Happy International Migratory Bird Day! Commune with our birding experts as they explore the hidden backwaters along the Chattahoochee River – a treat for birders of any skill-level. Rockin’ at the River

Sunset Sips: Heidi Pollyea

Heidi Pollyea, an Atlanta, Georgia based singer/songwriter, describes her special brand of music as “funky folk.” She performs on both piano and guitar and is influenced by jazz, gospel, pop, R&B and country.

The Sunset Sips concert series returns in 2017 to treat music lovers to an eclectic collection of local talent. The Nature Club: Climate Change with Geologist Bill Witherspoon

The good news about today’s challenge posed by burning fossil fuels, according to Witherspoon, is that there is a plausible path to phasing them out before a catastrophe is set in stone. Dr. Witherspoon will set the framework with examples from Earth history when changes in the atmosphere and oceans challenged and shaped Earth’s capacity to support life.

Date Night on the River

It is going to be a long summer, so get a babysitter and come relax with us on this adult-only evening paddle. Possum Trot 10K and 1 Mile Fun Run

Help support the wildlife and programs at the Chattahoochee Nature Center by running in the Possum Trot 10K and 1 Mile Fun Run!

The 39th Annual Possum Trot 10K takes place on a flat, fast and scenic course along the scenic banks of the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, GA to benefit the Chattahoochee Nature Center, a private non-profit education facility dedicated to connecting people to nature.  This is a fun, summer run and an Atlanta tradition for 39 years that is an Official AJC Peachtree Road Race Qualifying Event.  The race is limited to 1,500 runners so register early to ensure your spot! This is a point-to-point course with beautiful views of the CRNRA.  The race starts along Willeo Road, turns on to Azalea Road and loops back once, ending at the entrance of the Chattahoochee Nature Center with a post-race awards party including music, swag and awards for 13 age groups.

Event details and schedule: 10K with a start time of 7 AM – $30 pre-registration, $40 race day; Kids’ 1-mile Fun Run with a start time of 7:10 AM – $15; Team/Family Discount: Receive a $3 discount per participant with minimum of 4 members.  Registration: Includes white, cotton blend t-shirt, Great SWAG Bag, post-race awards party at CNCs Ben Brady Lakeside Pavilion and FREE admission to CNC on race day.

Our Fall Native Plant Sale takes place at the Chattahoochee Nature Center Greenhouse. Admission is free to the horticulture area and the sale is a great way to meet Master Gardeners who can give you advice for your garden questions. Harvest on the ‘Hooch in the Unity Garden
