Canoe Programs

canoe1River Canoe Trips

Each trip is led by a CNC naturalist and offers a unique introduction to the ecology of the Chattahoochee River. Your naturalist will enlighten you as to the cultural and natural history of the river, citing important ecological relationships and environmental issues that affect this endangered river while allowing you to enjoy the peaceful qualities of the River.

Canoe Guides are all CPR/First Aid Certified and are experienced paddlers and naturalists. Don’t worry if you are new to canoeing – CNC provides all equipment (canoe, paddles, and personal flotation device (PFDs) for participants. These trips are suitable for both beginning and advanced paddlers (ages 6 and up.)

Family Canoe Days

If you are just trying out canoeing for the first time, then join us for a Family Canoe Day on one of our ponds.  This 1 ½ hour class is designed to teach you boat basics and help you perfect your paddling.  Our Canoe Guides will go over safety protocols and then let you explore one of our ponds.  A great way to get ready for a summer out on the Chattahoochee.  Don’t worry if you are new to canoeing – CNC provides all equipment (canoe, paddles, and personal flotation device (PFDs) for participants. These trips are suitable for both beginning and advanced paddlers (ages 6 and up.)

Private Canoe Excursions

Ages 6 – Adult, Advance Registration Required at least 2 weeks in advance
A private canoe excursion gives your group the exclusive attention of our naturalists. It’s a great opportunity for groups who want to spend time together while exploring the Chattahoochee River. Trips can be arranged to fit your schedule and can accommodate large and small groups.

River Canoe Trip

Our experienced and knowledgeable river guides take you downriver to see the sights and sounds of this river in the summer. Discover the plants and animals that call this area home and explore the river’s backwaters as you re-imagine the river through a canoeing experience. The CNC provides all equipment for participants. Ages 6+; $30 general public/$25 members (per person).

Family Canoe Day

canoe 101Get your feet wet with our canoe guides on Beaver Pond! This 1 ½ hour introduction to canoeing is great for first time paddlers, families with young kids, or adults coming back to the sport. We’ll spend extra time going over paddling techniques and equipment, but will also provide races, games and water squirters for those hot summer mornings. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the nature center grounds afterwards. The CNC provides all equipment for participants.  Ages 5+; $15 General Public/$10 Members (price per person); Registration required the Thursday before each program.

Labor Day Paddle

Birding Canoe Trip

canoersThis trip will focus specifically on birds in the area and exploring the hidden backwaters along the river – a treat for birders of any skill-level. Some binoculars are available to borrow, but participants are encouraged to bring their own.  Ages 14+; $30 General Public/$25 Members (price per person); Register by September 8

Date Night on the River

image-259Get a babysitter and come relax with us on this adults-only evening paddle. There is a full moon on the 16th, and we’ll celebrate the autumn equinox on the 23rd. The grounds open up early so you can bring your own picnic dinner, and then our canoe guides will lead you on a 2 ½ hour sunset trip. Ages 21+; $30 General Public/$25 Members (price per person); Register by the Wednesday prior to each program.

Coyotes and Campfires

canoersExperts from the Atlanta Coyote Project will be joining us for this full moon paddle and campfire. Whether you are captivated, concerned, or just plain curious when it comes to coyotes, this is an opportunity to become educated, enjoy a 2 ½ paddle with our guides, enjoy roasting marshmallows around the campfire, and then listen for wild coyotes calling on the 127-acre Nature Center property. Ages 12+; $40 General Public/$30 Members (price per person); Register by September 15
