Butterfly Encounter

Open Daily until 4:30 pm

Presented by: Cox Automotive and Northside Hospital

The year’s most popular exhibit is back for this summer! This special outdoor exhibit is open daily until 4:30 pm from June 5 – July 31! Get up close and personal with hundreds of native butterflies surrounded by colorful nectar plants. Photo opportunities abound, be sure to bring your camera! Special visiting opportunities include CNC Members Only hours (June 10 from 9-10 am), Breakfast with Butterflies, and special evening hours at Sunset Sips!

Family Canoe Day

This introduction to canoeing is for first-time paddlers, families with young kids, or adults coming back to the sport. We’ll spend extra time going over paddling techniques and equipment, and provide races, games, and water squirters. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the nature center grounds afterwards. CNC provides all equipment. Register by the Thursday before each class; ages 5+; $15 General Public / $10 CNC Members (per person).

Great American Backyard Campout

Have you ever wanted to camp out in the great outdoors but stay close to home? Come camp under the stars. Go on a guided night hike, have an up-close experience with a rehabilitated animal, and end the evening with a marshmallow-roasting campfire. Pack a picnic and bring the camera. Register by June 22; all ages; $60 General Public Families / $40 CNC Member Families (price per tent).

River Canoe Trips

Come and take a leisurely evening paddle with our experienced canoe guides, while learning all about the environment of the Chattahoochee River. Perfect for a first time paddle or a fun way to reconnect with the river you already treasure. All equipment is provided. Also offered in July and August. Full Moon Family Night Hike

During our family night hike we will learn about the phases of the moon. Discuss tales and legends associated with moon phases and explore one of CNC’s trails. The evening will also include an encounter with one of the CNC’s rehabilitated nocturnal animals and a campfire. Woodland Restoration Project

Come help us restore the woodlands. We will be working to remove invasive English ivy and other non-natives in and around our woodlands in order to encourage native plant restoration.  Please contact us to reserve a spot for your family or group.  Ages 5 – Adult; Register one week prior to the event by emailing our Volunteer Coordinator.

Family Friendly Breakfast with Butterflies

be3Have you ever wanted some one-on-one time with several species of butterflies? Join us for a family-friendly morning with exclusive access to the butterfly encounter where you can enjoy a light breakfast, experience several species of butterflies in the CNC’s Butterfly Encounter tent and explore the grounds prior to opening. Pee-Wee Naturalists Summer Series

Expand your child’s knowledge about nature and make new friends – including wildlife. Your child will leave the program with a new appreciation for nature in the summertime and a fun craft they made to proudly display at home. Bird Walk with Atlanta Audubon Society

Join our friends with the Atlanta Audubon Society as we look for summer resident birds of the river and forest including warblers, sparrows, woodpeckers, raptors, waterfowl, and waders. We will walk the paved trail leading down to the river and then continue onto the boardwalk by the Chattahoochee River.

Water Day

Homeschool Science Open House for 2017-18 School Year

To start off the 2017-18 school year, Homeschool Science Monday will have an open house to introduce you and your student to the fun and knowledge that can be had at the CNC! Come and see what is planned for the upcoming school year!

Join us in the Nature Exchange monthly (September t0 May) for themed programming designed with your homeschool learner in mind.  Our knowledgeable volunteers and staff, 127 acres, and resources are here to help you expand and enhance your curriculum.  This station-learning format is open to ages 5 -13.  Enjoy a mini-lesson followed by hands-on activities and take-home projects that connect month to month. STARLAB

Explore our portable celestial theater STARLAB. In this special extended presentation of our program, we will discuss the stars and the night sky. We will also provide information on eclipses in preparation for the total solar eclipse traversing the U.S. the next day. Note: the planetarium is in complete darkness. Family Night Hike

Explore the sounds and sights of the forest floor. We may even hear some frogs or toads. On the hike we will also keep our eyes and ears open for the calls of owls and maybe even spot some bats swooping down to feed on insects. Harvest on the ‘Hooch in the Unity Garden

Join us at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in the Unity Garden for this unique Farm to Table Garden Fest complete with tastings prepared by our favorite local restaurants and caterers.  Harvest on the ‘Hooch will allow you to enjoy samplings of local craft beers and wine, bluegrass music, games, alpacas and other surprise farm guests!  Supporting the Unity Garden through this unique event helps those in need by providing fresh produce to the Food Pantry at North Fulton Community Charity. Halloween Hikes

A Family Event you won’t want to miss! If you are searching for a unique Halloween adventure, we have the program for you. Take your child on a well-lit hike through the forest to meet woodland creatures and hear about their lives. It’s the perfect non-scary alternative to traditional Halloween events and a VERY important fundraiser for CNC!

Cancellation and Refund Policy
If a class is cancelled for any reason you will receive a full refund. If you wish to cancel your reservation, please contact our office at least six business days prior to your scheduled program. $10 of your registration fee will be retained by CNC. You will receive confirmation when we receive your cancellation. If you do not receive confirmation within one business day, we have not received your cancellation. No refunds will be given for cancellations made fewer than 6 business days prior to your scheduled program. Refunds will be paid by check, please allow 4 – 6 weeks.
