Join our quarterly field trip!  Spend the morning exploring the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area!  National Park Service naturalist Jerry Hightower will help us celebrate the start of spring and take a look at the early spring forest, signs of wildlife, and great views from atop the West Palisades Ridge.  This will be an excellent opportunity to better learn this area with the leaves not yet obstructing the views of the rugged topography.  Additional information including carpooling and registration is available on our website:

Kingfisher Hall will once again bask in the gold, yellow, white and pink glow of hundreds of daffodils as The Georgia Daffodil Society presents its annual show.  Spreading the joy of growing daffodils and educating the public has been the core of this Society’s mission since its founding in 1954.
In 2011 Kingfisher Hall was filled with entries totaling nearly 500 blooms. Every year sees outstanding daffodils from a range of climates.  Exhibitors come from Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama. Many exhibitors grow hundreds of varieties, while others grow just a few.  And a bloom from a first-time exhibitor is just as likely to be a ribbon winner as one from a veteran!  
As the GDS encourages newcomers, regardless of age, to enter their blooms, we hope to see many of the children who left with bulbs in 2011 return with blooms in 2012.
You may enter your blooms on Friday, March 16th from 12 Noon to 6:00 PM & Saturday morning from 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM, the show is open to the public from 10am – 5pm and included in general admission.

Give your house plants a break. Your house plant will "camp out" in a special green house in the Discovery Center, go on nature hikes and watch plant only movies. Join Unity Garden Coordinator, Libby Lintel to learn more about growing herbs.  Have fun with a lively game of herb trivia, information on raising herbs in north Georgia, and a tour of the Kaiser-Permanente Unity Garden.  Following the tour, visitors are welcome to grab a trowel and help out in the garden.

Enjoy a relaxing and informative hike through the grounds with CNC Environmental Horticulturist, Lisa Cole, to explore the beauty of nature during this exciting time of year. 

Wetland Restoration Project: 2pm – 4pm

Help us restore our wetlands by removing invasive species from the River Boardwalk Trail.  Limited spaces are available and advance registration is required by April 17.*

CNC naturalists will lead you on a journey down river as you see it in new ways and discover why this resource is so important.  (Also offered June through October; check the next two CNC newsletters for additional trips.) Whether it’s your first time on the water or your fifth – you won’t want to miss this!
