NEW! Nature Exchange- Ask an Expert Series - Ask a Master Gardener

: Saturday, March 13, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, All Ages, Each month features a different expert to answer your topical nature and outdoor questions.  March's Expert: Master Gardener: When should you plant perennials? What native plants thrive in shade? Get your garden going by asking these experts your gardening questions.

Night Hike:Saturday, March 13, 7:00 – 9: 00 PM, Ages 5 -adult, $10 Non-Members/$5 Members, Join a naturalist on a journey outdoors to see what happens at night at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, visit with a nocturnal animal and enjoy a spring campfire!  

Nella Rigell - Lyres, Kings and Gaelic Strings: Sunday, March 14, 1 PM & 2 PM, Nella entrances audiences with this enchanting instrument as she traces the harp's history from an ordinary hunter's bow to the magnificent grand harp. Get an opportunity to try out different types of harps in an unusual jam session!

Mammal Study Merit Badge for Boy Scouts: Sunday, March 14, 12:00 – 4:30 PM, Special Price $15 per Scout*, Pre-Registration Required, In this 4-hour workshop, discover what makes a mammal a mammal, learn about one of the mammals that CNC has in rehabilitation, find out how we get our biofacts and what we have to do to preserve them and discuss the delicate balance of the Chattahoochee River's ecosystem.  *Program sponsored by the Will Alexander Scout Scholarship (reduces the normal $25 fee.)  Register at 770-992-2055 ext. 249 or email scouts@chattnaturecenter.org. Spring Stars in our STARLAB: Saturday, March 20, 10:00 – 11:00 AM (2, 25-Minute Sessions), Ages 5 -adult, It may be chilly outside but it’s warm inside our STARLAB!  Children and adults will delight in learning what stars they will find up in the sky inside our inflatable planetarium.

Let’s Go Fly A Kite: Sunday, March 21, 1:00 PM –2:30PM, Ages 7 and up, $10 Non-Members/$5 Members, Pre-registration Required, Celebrate spring by making your own kite!   Use provided materials to make a simple kite, learn how it flies and head outside to test your creation!

Nature Explorers  - Ages 5 & 6: Thursday, March 25, April 29 and May 20, 3:30 – 4:45 PM, $50 Non-Members/$35 Members, Pre-Registration Required, Classes include animal presentations, art projects, and natural world investigations, including trail walks and interactive activities. Native Plant Sale - Saturday, March 27 from 9 AM - 5 PM and Sunday, March 28 from Noon - 5 PM, A special event offering the public a unique opportunity to view and purchase native plants of Georgia for their own home landscaping. Many of the plants offered are grown from the Nature Center's naturally occuring population. Plants available include: Native Azaleas, flowering trees and shrubs, groundcovers and grasses, blooming perennials and sun and shade lovers! Master Gardeners will be on hand for advice and plant questions. The sale is FREE to the public. Admission to CNC grounds not included. Spring Film Series in the Cowie Weiss Theater – Food Inc. - Saturday and Sunday, March 27 & 28, 1:00 & 3:00  PM, Ages 10 -Adult, These entertaining and informative films and documentaries take you to far away places and challenge you to look at our environment in new ways.  Academy Award nominated and well acclaimed Food Inc. lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies.

Infant Walk: Wednesday, March 31, 10:00 – 11:15 AM, Ages Birth – 2 years, $15 Non-Members/$10 Members (price per family), Pre-Registration Required, Join a CNC naturalist to discover ways you can connect your infant and young child to the wonders of nature.  Program topics vary by month.

Wilderness First Responder: Saturday May 1st – Sunday May 9th, 8:30AM – 5PM with one late night, $595 Members & non-Members, This course, in partnership with Solo Schools, is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors and students in outdoor recreational programs. The 72-hour curriculum includes standards for urban and extended-care situations.  This course is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of your time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision-making abilities.  Ages 16 – Adult, Pre-Registration Required. Wilderness First Aid: Saturday May 15th and Sunday May 16th, 8:30AM – 5:30PM both days, $149 Members & non-Members, This course, in partnership with Solo Schools, provides entry-level training for outdoor enthusiasts to prepare themselves for outdoor trips. Topics covered range from preparation and prevention to assessment and treatment. All of our instructors have extensive outdoor experience and have been selected not only for their expertise in emergency medicine and rescue, but also for their teaching skills. WFA is a two-year certification that does not include CPR. American Heart Association (AHA) HeartSaver CPR is an optional extra that can be taken on the evening of day one. Wilderness First Responder Recertification: Saturday May 22nd and Sunday May 23rd, 8:30AM – 5:30PM both days, $164 Members & non-Members, This course, in partnership with Solo Schools, is an intensive two-day class specially designed for people who have completed WFR, whose certification is due to expire or will expire within one month of the date shown on the card. Taking the WFR Recertification will bring you up to date with all new wilderness protocols and refresh your memory on standard WFR curriculum. American Heart Association (AHA) HeartSaver CPR, valid for two years, can be taken on the evening of the first day (5:30pm-7:30pm) at an additional charge of $35. Wilderness Survival: Saturday June 5th and Sunday June 6th, 8:30AM – 5:30PM both days, Ages 16 - Adult, $140 Pre-Registration Required, Whether you're planning to audition for an episode of Survivor or just want to improve your wilderness aptitude, this workshop is bound to be an exciting weekend! We'll spend some time in the classroom, but the bulk of our learning will take place in scenarios on the grounds of the Chattahoochee Nature Center.  Topics will include: Making a Plan: food, water, fire, shelter  - Water: collection, purification and filtration - Food: trapping, edible plants and cooking methods - Fire: wood, location, one match fire and Flint & Steel - Shelter: location and examples - Calling for Help: basic signaling and leaving notes or signs - Building Survival Kits
