Become a Nature Exchange Expert!

Here’s how it works:

Bring in found natural objects and trade them for points. Points can be used to take home nature objects from the Nature Exchange. A simple natural object like a rock or pinecone starts you on the path to trading for exciting gems or exotic sea shells.

What can YOU trade?

  • pressed plants and flowers
  • sea shells
  • cocoons
  • antlers
  • shed snake skin
  • insects (non-living)
  • rocks
  • fossils

Just to name a few.

Earn more points! Traders who learn about their objects with a Nature Exchange Naturalist or through independent learning are awarded Learning Points.

Even more points?!? Traders earn even MORE points by doing original work and projects about their natural object. You can earn points for:

  • Artwork
  • Stories
  • Photos
  • Rubbings
  • Plaster casts
  • Other projects we haven’t even thought of!

What to expect during your visit:

While visiting, you can trade, look at all of the neat stuff, research your objects, and use Nature Exchange microscopes and other tools. If you are planning to trade, give yourself some time. A single trade takes 5 to15 minutes per person.

When deciding what to trade, please make sure that your objects meet these guidelines:

  • Objects must be clean and in good repair.
  • If collecting away from home, always make sure that you have permission to collect. The Nature Exchange cannot accept items collected from properties that prohibit collecting. This includes National Park Service sites such as the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
  • Objects may not be collected from Chattahoochee Nature Center property. Besides, we want to know what is in your backyard!
  • Please leave live animals where you find them.
  • The Nature Exchange cannot accept items that are regulated by local, state and federal laws. This includes bird parts, feathers, eggs and nests, endangered plant and animal species, and animals protected under CITES.
  • Please limit trades to 3 items per visit.
  • Trading ends at 4:30 PM.

CNC Encourages Responsible Collecting

The Chattahoochee Nature Center supports stewardship of the living world and the preservation of biodiversity. We encourage traders to thoughtfully consider the effect of their actions when collecting in and enjoying the natural world. Tread lightly as you go and never take more than what you need.
