Nature Exchange Fall Programs and Themes
September 1 - November 30
Regularly Scheduled Programs in Nature Exchange for the Fall
Fact or Fiction: Animal Edition, September–November
Do frogs really give you warts? What does it really mean to be “as blind as a bat”? Just how slimy is a snake? Join CNC in Nature Exchange to learn about these animal myths and more. The answers may surprise you.
Mystery Myths, September–November
Use Creek and Cherokee legends as inspiration to create your own tales, using a jumbo mix-and-match word bank. How did the moon come to be? How did the raccoon get its tail stripes? Why do the leaves fall in autumn? The possibilities are limitless.
Dawning of a Granite Giant, September-November
Residents of the metro Atlanta area know Stone Mountain, but you may not know how it came to be. Visit the Nature Exchange to learn about the ancient origins of this granite giant.
Indoor Scavenger Hunt, September–November
Explore the Nature Exchange as you hunt for themed clues to complete the Indoor Scavenger Hunts. A new theme each month. Find all the clues and earn NEX points.
Outdoor Scavenger Hunt, September–November
As the leaves change colors and a cool breeze stirs, get outside to search the CNC grounds for myths and legends of the natural world with an Outdoor Scavenger Hunt. Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet from the Nature Exchange before you head out. The more answers you find, the more NEX points you can earn.
The Loch Ness Monster of Georgia, Throughout September
Last spring, a mysterious creature washed ashore onto the beaches of Georgia’s Wolf Island National Wildlife Refuge. Is it a monster? An ancient predator? Join us in the Nature Exchange and decide for yourself.
Cherokee Stars and Stories, Throughout October
Visit the Nature Exchange to learn how the Cherokee people described and defined stars. CNC’s homemade constellation viewers bring the night sky indoors. View each constellation and try to match it with the legend that goes along with it.
Fabled Fairy Crosses, Throughout November
Imagine being in the forest and stumbling across a small, perfect cross made of stone. When did it get there? How did it come to be? Come to the Nature Exchange to find out and view some of these mysterious objects up close.
