Onsite Field Studies

Come explore the Chattahoochee Nature Center with your class for fun, educational experiences your students won’t ever forget! Can’t make the trip to visit us? No problem, book an Outreach Program and we will bring the learning into your classroom! Either way, a CNC naturalist will lead your class in exploration. School programs include hands-on activities and a Teacher’s Guide with additional curriculum.

All onsite programs are conducted at CNC and are suggested as a 2 hour and 30 minute experience. Each program includes:
Guided forest hike with one of our naturalists plus an up-close animal encounter with one of our non-releasable wildlife. The program is 1 hour and 15 minutes. Self-guided time in our picnic areas, gardens, and Wildlife Walk, and a guided tour of our Watershed Gallery in the Discovery Center with the rest of the time.

Discover Nature

Young children receive an introduction to Nature. What is and is not a part of nature is discovered as they use their senses, to explore in the natural world around them.

Plants and Trees

Students discover how plants and trees grow and learn about the relationships between humans, plants, and animals.

ONSITE PROGRAMS SCHEDULE AND RESERVATIONS

Reservations are taken year-round by email (Scheduling@chattnaturecenter.orgJ or by phone (770-992-2055 x 237) on a first-come basis. Schedule early to ensure the dates of your choice. Please email us or call between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm and plan approximately 10-15 minutes per call. If we are busy or unavailable, please leave a message and we will make every attempt to return to your call on the same day. We can accommodate groups as large as 150 per time slot (10 am to 11:15 am or 11:30 am to 12:45 pm) for a single program unless otherwise noted.

Program Pricing

Single program • $12.00 per student, 2 adults free per 25 students• Each additional adult (teacher/chaperone) $12.00 each• $150 minimum per single program• 1 Naturalist is scheduled to teach 25 students. School class size will not always match CNC’s class size.Deposit due 2 weeks from booking date is $150 or 25% of total cost of program, whichever is greater. Balance due on day of program. Scheduling Office only accepts single payments from Lead Teacher, CANNOT accept individual payments from chaperones, etc. ALL money must be collected by Lead Teacher and presented to Scheduling Office on day of program. Inquire about potential scholarship money based on FRL.

Cancellation Policy

When you schedule a program, we reserve a slot in the calendar for your group, and we commit staff and resources to ensure you an exceptional educational experience. Please review the following cancellation policy for Chattahoochee Nature Center:
>>  All programs take place rain or shine {indoor space is available).
>>  You may reschedule a program, if space is available, up to 4 weeks before your originally scheduled date without penalty.
>>  You may cancel a program up to four weeks before your originally scheduled date without penalty.
>>  Programs cancelled less than 4 weeks from program date will not receive a refund of deposit.
>>  Schools with an unpaid balance will not be able to schedule another program until the balance is paid.

OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Help bring nature to life for your younger children even if you can’t come to CNC! A naturalist will bring fun and engaging activities along with biofacts and a non-releasable animal! Choose from several programs below. Programs can be booked Monday through Sunday, mornings, afternoons, and evenings, year-round. Spaces are limited during spring and fall due to high demand. All programs must be booked a minimum of three weeks prior to the program date. Please contact us if you have any questions about our policies.

Story Time/Animal Time

Children will hear a story about an animal, then get to meet that animal. This program may only be scheduled in conjunction with another outreach program.

Explore the wonders of pollinators with this engaging 30 minute program! Program includes an animal demonstration.

Nature’s Wonders

This interactive 30-minute program will provide children with an awareness and early understanding of nature. Young children will practice observation skills to encourage exploration of their own backyards. This program will conclude with a live animal presentation. PLEASE NOTE: This program is designed with the skills, interests, and abilities of 3-year-olds in mind and is not appropriate for children under the age of 3.

Discover Nature

This 45 minute, hands-on program will engage young minds in the wonders of the natural world. Children will explore what is part of nature and what is not and become budding scientists who use their innate curiosity to examine a variety of nature treasures. PLEASE NOTE: This program is designed with the skills, interests, and abilities of 4 and 5 -year-olds in mind and is not appropriate for children under the age of 4.

Plants and Trees

This program captures the curiosity of young minds through a series of engaging stations that focus on the human – plant relationship. The program includes with an animal demonstration. Children will discover the wonders of plants. This hands-on, 45-minute program will include learning about the relationship between trees and humans. A perfect addition to any plant or tree unit! This program will conclude with a live animal presentation.

Travelling Trunks

Prepackaged curriculum and activities you can rent from CNC to use in your classroom for up to 3 weeks. The Skunk Trunk – La Maleta de Mofeta is a program all about the Five Senses. Using both Spanish and English vocabulary and curriculum, La Maleta de Mofeta is also a celebration of language. Filled with books, puppets, photographs, animal biofacts, and easy-to-use activities, the trunk will help teachers’ open doors for all children to have a better understanding of the five senses while learning about nature.

Pre-school Programs for Age 3 and younger: 20 students maximum, 30 minutes **May only be scheduled in conjunction with another Outreach Program, $90 per session (Story Time/Animal Time program ONLY)
Pre-school Programs for age 3: 20 students maximum, 30 minutes $205 for the first program, $95 for each additional program
Pre-school Programs for Ages 4-5: 25 students’ maximum, 45 minutes $225 for first program, $110 for each additional program Festival Programs: $210 for the first hour, $110 each additional hour Traveling Trunks Pricing: $100 fully refundable deposit, plus $165 rental fee
Additional Pricing Information: $50 one-time development fee for customized programming

*NOTE: Audience limits are set to ensure an optimal experience for every student/participant. Audience size may not exceed the published limits without permission of the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Audiences who do exceed the published limits will incur additional session fees.
