The LIT program provides a unique opportunity for high school students entering 10th and 11th grade to enjoy their summer in a fun camp setting, while getting the opportunity to build on their leadership skills through hands on experiences.

Shifts: Shifts would occur ~9AM-1PM, Monday – Friday, volunteer time based on scheduled programming.
Description: Seeking volunteers interested in supporting the logistics of our education programming at Chattahoochee Nature Center. The volunteer would not be leading or teaching groups, but helping provide a welcoming and efficient field trip visit. Volunteer responsibilities would include setting up / breakdown of picnic facilities tables and chairs, assisting with field trip wayfinding around CNC property, assisting with transporting materials around the property (using wheeled carts), and other logistics.

Project opportunities for corporate teams vary; based upon group size, time, and various age levels. All of our projects are outdoors and involve gardening, landscape, or maintenance work. Our ideal group size is ~20, but we can accommodate groups as small as 5-10, or larger teams, as well.
Group projects are available on weekdays from 8:30-11:30AM or 12-3PM depending on the season.
We can also work with a longer time frame if requested. We book our projects at least a month in advance. Each request is subject to CNC staff and appropriate project availability.

If you are interested in coming out weekly or monthly on a regular basis, consider helping us as a docent.
CNC docents are volunteers who are stationed at a variety of exhibits on the grounds and in the Discovery Center or leading trail hikes on the grounds. They help visitors gain an understanding of the natural world. Docents share their knowledge and enthusiasm about exhibits, gardens, trails, and non-releasable wildlife by greeting visitors, answering questions, conducting animal presentations, and leading weekend hikes.
Becoming a docent at CNC involves a training process, which begins with a 1/2 day of orientation. Orientation is scheduled two times a year; usually in February and August). Orientation is followed by several observations of other docents and CNC naturalists in action. The initial training process can be completed in 3-6 months. Continued training opportunities are offered on an ongoing basis. Our docents are outgoing and enthusiastic environmental educators!

The CNC Horticulture Curator leads volunteers in multiple greenhouse projects including clean-up, potting up plants, stepping up, and propagation of plants native to Georgia.
Horticulture volunteers work on Thursday mornings from 9-11AM.

Horticulture volunteers work with our horticulture team on the grounds. They have the opportunity to learn about native plants and how to care for them in a garden setting. They are involved in all aspects of plant care from greenhouse propagation to weeding, mulching, and pruning.
The grounds volunteers also work to remove unwanted invasive plants from the gardens. This group meets Wednesdays from 8-11AM rain or shine.

The CNC’s Unity Garden is a 1/4 acre area that was developed in 2010, with a grant from Kaiser-Permanente. Unity Garden volunteers raise vegetables from seeds through harvest. All of the produce is donated to those in need through the food pantry at North Fulton Community Charities.
Unity Garden volunteers work weekly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8-11AM rain or shine.
