Job Title: Lifeguard/Specialist
Hours: 40-50 hours per week
Classification: Nonexempt, hourly, seasonal
Reports to: Camp Directors

Position Purpose:

All staff at Camp Kingfisher are hired to:

• lead campers as a positive, caring role model
• provide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experiences
• help campers grow and learn through challenges

The Lifeguard/Specialist leads the safe implementation of the swimming program for campers at Camp Kingfisher. Lifeguards are also responsible for leading 6 swimming periods per day, maintaining pool facilities, and fulfilling additional specialist duties at camp.

Job Responsibilities:

• Maintain high standards of safety, health, and cleanliness during all activities in the pool area
• Implement and supervise all aspects of the pool program for campers entering grades pre-K-9
• Administer swim tests and efficiently communicate pool rules and expectations
• Water testing and monitoring chemical levels
• Create and lead programs for when the pool is closed
• Support program areas such as aftercare, waterfront, all camp activities, and any other areas as directed
• Clean pool and camp facilities daily
• Attend weekly camp staff and specialist meetings
• Complete additional duties as assigned

Other Job Duties:

• Lifeguard for 2-4 after-camp programs such as camper overnights
• Contribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requested
• Keeping track of and recording hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional hours prior to work

Qualifications:

• Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification, course provided
• Current First Aid/CPR certification, course provided
• Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with children
• Ability to adhere to and to enforce Camp Kingfisher’s water safety procedures
• Background in child care, camps, or prior lifeguarding
• Willingness to work outdoors during the summer season
• Must be able to lift over 20 pounds
• Valid GA driver’s license
